Heritage Malta has been carrying out excavations at the Tarxien Temples over the last few months in preparation for the construction of the BOV Tarxien Temples Visitors' Centre, which will house some of the artefacts discovered during Sir Temi Zammit's excavation early in the 20th century.

The centre is scheduled to be open in 2008. The aim of the excavation was to ensure that no archaeological remains are endangered by the construction of the centre. The next step will entail the manual cleaning of several areas of the site to ensure that no features possibly found on the bedrock will be damaged during construction. In addition, the artefacts excavated from the temples are being recorded and analysed.

The exhibition at the centre will present aspects of Maltese pre-history. Audio-visual facilities will be available.
