An unemployed man and a mini bus driver were yesterday granted bail after being charged with attempting to steal a van.

Joseph Grech, 43 of Qormi and Robert Zahra, 30 of Ghaxaq, were accused of trying to steal a Mazda van to the detriment of Emanuel Degiorgio on August 20.

Mr Grech alone was charged with assaulting two policemen, failing to obey police orders and relapsing.

Inspector Malcolm Spiteri prosecuted.

Lawyers Patrick Valentino and Franco Debono assisted the accused.
