I read with interest Leo Brincat's letter (August 7) and I refer to its title: What's Sauce For The Goose...
The title instantly set my mind thinking about my retirement pension. Being a former British serviceman (locally enlisted) I was awarded a service pension on my termination of employment due to the forces' withdrawal back in March 1979.
On my 61st birthday I qualified for a retirement pension, having paid my national insurance contributions for just over 42 years, but the Social Services Department, which Dolores Christina is responsible for, decided to deduct part of my retirement pension. The reason I was given by the department for this deduction is that I am in possession of more than one pension, so the decision was that I have to lose part of my retirement pension.
This does not apply to our members of Parliament. Is it so Minister Cristina and Mr Brincat ?
For fairness sake, why do we have two systems, are we not on the same level of citizenship?
This discrepancy was created by our parliamentarians and they are the people responsible to set it right. Otherwise the situation would remain one whereby what is good for the goose is... No?
I would be very pleased to hear their views.
I had hoped that this injustice would be sorted out in the pre-budget document being one of the pre-election promises made by the party in power.
