The Home Affairs Ministry said in a statement yesterday that the Labour Party's claim that it had not received a reply on the composition of the Local Councils Association since Labour won a majority of mayors and councillors in the last election is incorrect.
The ministry was reacting to Friday's statement by MLP spokesman on local councils, Chris Cardona, who had maintained that the ministry had not put the matter right, despite meetings and the exchange of correspondence.
The ministry said yesterday that Minister Tonio Borg had in April sent the MLP a draft amendment that guarantees that that party that nets a majority will have majority representation on the association.
The ministry added that as soon as the MLP replies to that letter, the necessary changes will be carried out.
