I left home to go out with my car and ended up waiting for 45 minutes for a chap to come and remove his leased van from the common driveway of ten garages.

The police could not tow his car or issue a contravention because the word 'Garage' does not appear anywhere on the driveway. The Birkirkara police took more than half hour to locate the owner of the car. When he did turn up, he just said "Sorry man!", and walked off.

Garage owners were advised that unless there is a sign reading 'Garage' in the driveway, we may park as "we please". We have also learned that the stickers with "Tow Zone Area" or "No Parking" on them are not suitable. If you need to park in front of a garage or driveway with one of these stickers you can also park as you please!

On the other hand, I gave police my particulars and I had to vouch that I was the owner of two of the garages in the driveway and that there were cars in them, not sofas.

There's the law for you.
