The explosion which occurred while fireworks were being let off from a barge moored off Fort St Angelo should serve as an eye opener to whoever is in charge of granting permission for such activities.

Imagine the damage such an explosion could have caused had it happened in the fort itself. In a few weeks' time, Senglea, my home town, will be celebrating the feast of Our lady of Victories.

Usually the cavalier of St Angelo is used as a launching pad for the feast's fireworks. I appeal to the Senglea committee to desist from letting off fireworks from the fort and hope that applications to do so are turned down.
