The Times has carried a barrage of letters on the decline in tourism. Honestly speaking, I don't care. Why should I? After all the authorities seem not to care either. Today I was driving along the newly resurfaced road towards Mgarr. Suddenly a huge chunk of concrete split out of a concrete mixer ahead of me. Others honked their horn in warning but the driver didn't seem to care. We stopped in disbelief and one of the drivers phoned someone to report the matter. The answer from the other end was "Are you ready to testify?"

So you see, nobody seems to care. The roads will be spoiled with concrete droppings for years to come. This is one of the many things that irritates tourists.
