Air transport to Gozo

Gozo needs an extended airstrip to enable fixed-wing aircraft to land if it is to secure its future in tourism.

Parliamentary Secretary Tonio Fenech says much in his socio-economic development plan for Gozo about the opportunities that can also give a secure future to the island (August 9).

Similar statements have time and again been made by the Labour Party, with interesting plans connected with Gozo. I have no doubt that Alternattiva Demokratika too has substantial policies for the betterment of the island.

I now challenge all three parties to state whether they are prepared to seriously undertake a necessary extension of the helicopter airstrip to one that takes light to medium fixed-wing aircraft, which is sorely needed. Please do not evade the issue. Locals here would like to know.
