• Tamil Tigers attacked a Pakistan embassy convoy killing seven people, the Sri Lankan military said, and the two sides traded accusations over whether air raid victims were innocent teenagers or rebel fighters. The bomb attack on the diplomatic convoy came hours after the Air Force attacked the grounds of a former orphanage, in a raid the Tamil rebels said killed 61 schoolgirls aged 15-18 and injured 155 as they were receiving first aid training.
• A day after a series of blasts killed at least 57 people, the dazed residents of Zaafaraniya are still wondering what hit them. Simultaneous explosions on Sunday night included a suicide motorcycle bomber, rockets and a roadside bomb which hit a market in the southern Baghdad district, police said.
• Four foreign oil workers were kidnapped by armed men from a nightclub in Nigeria's southern oil city of Port Harcourt, the fifth abduction in 10 days, witnesses and police said. The kidnappers, who wore army uniforms, released volleys of automatic gunfire into the air as they stormed the site in three vehicles late on Sunday, ordered everyone in the crowded club to lie on the floor and singled out white males for abduction.
• Nigeria handed over the northern part of the Bakassi peninsula to Cameroon after pulling out thousands of troops from the territory in line with an international ruling. The International Court of Justice decreed in 2002 that Nigeria should turn over Bakassi, which has offshore oil deposits, to its eastern neighbour after a decades-long dispute which nearly brought the two countries to war in 1981.
