George Abela sues paper for libel again

George Abela yesterday filed another libel suit against l-orizzont editor Frans Ghirxi.

This time it is over an article entitled Sorprizi bl-agir ta' George Abela - Jithallas eluf kbar ta' liri mill Gvern Nazzjonalista, izda jiehu ghalih meta jinghad li ghandu afiinita mal-PN, (Surprised at the behaviour of George Abela - He's paid thousands by the Nationalist government but is offended when it is said he has an affinity with the PN), published on August 11.

Dr Abela last week filed two libel suits, one against the General Workers' Union's information secretary Charles Vella for issuing a press release containing false and defamatory comments directed against him, and another against l-orizzont's editor Mr Ghirxi, for publishing it.

In that case, Dr Abela had sent the GWU a letter informing them that the press release they had issued contained false and libellous allegations and asked them to withdraw it, but the statement was published in the union's own newspaper.
