Actor Lou Diamond Phillips arrested
Actor Lou Diamond Phillips, who starred in the 1987 film La Bamba, was jailed early on Friday on suspicion of domestic abuse against his live-in girlfriend, Los Angeles police said. Officers responding to a domestic violence call in the Los Angeles suburb of Northridge took Phillips, 44, into custody, police spokeswoman Martha Garcia said. She said the actor was held on $50,000 bail.
Magazine says Kanye West engaged
Superstar rapper Kanye West is engaged to marry his girlfriend, People magazine reported on Friday. The magazine's Website, citing unnamed sources close to the singer, said West, 29, proposed to his girlfriend, Alexis, during a recent overseas trip, but added that the woman's last name and occupation were not immediately available.

Oliver Stone's new film, World Trade Center, got off to a promising start at the box office on Wednesday, grossing better-than-expected receipts of $4.4 million in its first day, Paramount Pictures executives said on Thursday. Mike Douglas, the affable big-band singer who for two decades hosted a parade of America's biggest stars and newsmakers on his top-rated daytime talk show, died on Friday on his 81st birthday, friends said. Douglas, an Irish tenor on the verge of quitting show business before landing the TV series that made him a household name, died at a hospital in North Palm Beach, Florida, according to business associate Bob Patterson.
