On the evening of July 23, my husband and I decided to go to Sliema for dinner. As soon as we arrived in Msida we saw that the road to Sliema was closed because of the Msida feast.

We rerouted towards Birkirkara.  The traffic from Msida reached the centre of Birkirkara and so we tried to drive through the Regional Road. The traffic started from Paceville all the way through the Regional Road as the bypass was closed as well because of the fireworks.

We arrived at Sliema, from Paola, after two hours of unbearable traffic.

After dinner, at about 10 p.m., we had to go through the ordeal all over again as the fireworks stopped at about 10.15 p.m. We got home at 11.30 p.m. Half of Malta was slowed down because of a feast and some fireworks.

Is it possible that when permits are issued to close such important roads the authorities do not think about the problems that arise?
