The General Workers' Union has complained at not being consulted about the privatisation of Enemalta's gas section before the news was made public.

The process leading to the privatisation of the gas section started yesterday.

The GWU's chemicals, energy and printing section said it was only called for a meeting yesterday morning, after the news had been made public. The section said this not only showed that the government wanted to "dictate" but also that it did not discuss before deciding, adding that this was undermining social dialogue.

It pointed out that the employees deserved to be informed both about decisions which affected their workplace and their future.
