The situation at Mizzi Organisation Automotive Division garages was back to normal yesterday after the General Workers' Union lifted its industrial action.

During a meeting between the two, it was agreed that the union would be lifting its action - which had included go slow, work to rule, not answering the telephone and the ban on overtime - and to continue negotiations on the collective agreement.

The agreement expired over 18 months ago and was being held with all new car importers, the union said. The Mizzi Organisation said it "conceded that until we conclude a new collective agreement, the employees at Mizzi Automotive Services Ltd (one of its five companies) would keep the same working hours they had prior to the industrial action taken on July 29".

As from yesterday, it was "business as usual" at its garages, it said.
