Obituary
ANASTASI. On August 7, at his residence, MARK J., of Iklin, director Tristar, aged 62, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Dorothy née Mifsud Bonnici, his children Ingrid and her husband Konrad Bajada, Vanessa and her husband Philip Attard, Mark and his fiancée Daniela Sacco, grandchildren Jake, Kane and Krista, his parents Edward and Liliana, his sisters Marguerit and her husband David Alcock, Bernardette and her husband Joe Quinn, his brothers Martin and his wife Rita, Robert and his wife Simone and Patrick and his wife Margae, his mother-in-law Inez Mifsud Bonnici, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves his residence today at 8 a.m. for Lija parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m. followed by interment in the family vault at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Ursuline Creche Sliema will be appreciated.
Lord grant him eternal rest.
AZZOPARDI. On August 6, Fr SALVINO AZZOPARDI, SJ, aged 75, went to meet the Risen Lord, comforted by the rites of Holy Mother Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his brethren of the Society of Jesus, his sister Maria, widow of Edmond Micallef, his brother Fr Anton, SJ, his sister Sina, widow of Jimmy Marsh, his sister Carmen, wife of Chev. Paul Naudi, his sister-in-law Aida, widow of his brother Louis Azzopardi, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
CASSAR. On August 8, at St Luke's Hospital, MARIE ANTOINETTE, née Seychell, aged 48, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her husband Alexander and her sons Duncan and Owen, her mother Carmela Seychell, her brother Joe and his wife Rita, her father and mother-in-law Nicholas Francis and Maria Assunta, in-laws Anthony and his wife Connie, Monica, widow of Manwel, Dione and Joseph, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. - R.I.P.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 3.30 p.m. for the Immaculate Conception parish church, Ibrag, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 4 p.m. followed by interment at Zejtun cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Malta Hospice Movement will be appreciated.

Attard Soirée
A cultural soirée will be held at Pope John Paul II parish centre, in Attard, on Saturday at 8 p.m. on the occasion of the feast of Santa Marija at the village.
Taking part in the programme will be the Versatile Brass Band under the direction of Paul Borg, the EnKor Choir directed by Johanna Van Lent and guitarist Carrà, who is Maltese-Australian and currently on a European tour.
Admission is free.
Santa Marija Feast
Archbishop Mgr Joseph Mercieca will be presiding over celebrations at the Cathedral, in Mdina, on the occasion of the feast of the Assumption of Our Lady, better known as Santa Marija.
On Monday, the eve of the feast, there will be the Translation of the relic of Our Lady at 5.30 p.m. while at 6 p.m. there will be a Mass and Pontifical Vespers.
On Tuesday, the day of the feast, there will be Mass at 8 a.m. which will then be followed by morning prayers and a Pontifical Concelebrated Mass at 9 a.m.
Another Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The programme will continue at 5 p.m. with Vespers, reposition of the relic and a Eucharistic Celebration. Mass will follow at 6 p.m.
Gold Award In Journalism
The Institute of Maltese Journalists has launched the ninth edition of the Gold Award to recognise outstanding contributions in journalism.
The aim of the award is to reward a Maltese person who has a long career and vast experience in journalism or an institution, organisation or group of persons who have given a substantial contribution towards the development of journalism.
In both events, this contribution should go beyond the normal professional duties.
Nominations should reach Joe A. Vella at 146/5, Howard Street, Sliema by September 1.
The selection of the Gold Award winner will be made by a board of three prominent persons assisted by a secretary appointed from among officials of the IMJ.
Cross-Stitch Exhibition
Twenty-six Italian women and a representative from Switzerland, part of the Associazione Italiana Del Punto Croce, visited Malta as part of a twinning project with the Stitch in Time Club.
The members of the Stitch in Time Club held an exhibition of cross-stitch works at the Catholic Institute in Floriana.
There was also a display of ganutell and monastery work by Maria Kerr and handmade lace by Marika Camilleri and Carmen Ellul.
The presidents of both clubs exchanged gifts and souvenirs were given to those present.
A reception was held at the end of the event.
Convoy Commemoration
The Port Chaplain in collaboration with the Chancellor of St Paul Anglican Cathedral, the Ministry for Tourism and Culture, the Armed Forces of Malta, the British Legion and the Valletta Rehabilitation Project will commemorate the convoy of Santa Marija with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Customs House, Valletta on Monday at 7 p.m.
All ex-servicemen and ex-Merchant Navy personnel are invited to attend and are asked to be at the Customs House Quay, Valletta before 6.50 p.m.
Scouts In Tunisia
The Hamrun scout group took part in a camp in Tunisia on the invitation of the Tunisian Hammam Sousse Scout Group.
The group of 33 spent a week in Tunisia, where they were given a good insight of Tunisian culture and traditions. They also exchanged scouting skills with the Tunisian counterparts, visited places of interest and took part in a number of activities.
They also took part in the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Hammam Sousse Scout Group.
Sliema Arts Festival
The Sliema Philharmonic Society will be holding the Sliema International Arts Festival between September 29 and December 1.
The Serpentii Brass Septet from Espoo, Finland will open the festival with a repertoire of baroque music, tangos and jazz selections by Glenn Miller and Louis Armstrong.
There will also be an Operetta Evening, art exhibitions, a recital of Mozart works for piano and trumpet, a concert by the St Monica Choir of Mosta, a performance by the Children's Flute Group as well as another performance by the Our Lady of Lourdes Choir of San Gwann.
The programme includes a lecture by historian Tony Terribile on Malta artists of the 20th century. The festival will end with a concert by the National Orchestra.
Entrance to all events is free.
Health, Safety Degree
The second intake by the University of Greenwich for the BSc in Occupational Safety, Health and Environment is scheduled for October 21.
Stuart Allan, principal lecturer and programme leader from the School of Architecture and Construction, University of Greenwich, will be in Malta on September 23 for an information meeting and again on October 21 for the induction training.
The university today has 20,000 registered students in its three campuses at Greenwich and Avery Hill, both in southeast London and Chatham, Kent.
