The Malta Resource Centre, a non-government organisation that supports other NGOs in the social and environment spheres, has welcomed some of the options presented by Parliamentary Secretary Tonio Fenech during the recent round table it organised with Forum Malta fl-Ewropa.
The round table was held to discuss ways and means by which Maltese NGOs can manage Structural Fund projects under the EU Budget 2007-2013.
The centre said the NGOs showed great interest in taking part in such projects.
The two options put forward by Mr Fenech that MRC consider as the most suitable are: a public body acting as an intermediary body that would service and support the NGOs, similar to aid schemes for the private sector; and NGOs competing as service providers with the private sector in a competitive tendering process.
The round table addressed co-financing solutions and national policies for structural fund projects managed by NGOs and the creation of a system to make structural funds more accessible to NGOs, among other subjects.
