Almost 500 struck off unemployment register

Public urged to report abuses

A total of 497 persons have been removed from the unemployment register by the Employment and Training Corporation (ETC) in the first six months of this year.

The ETC has been investigating a number of persons registering for work.

It found that 106 persons were working while registering for work. Another 295 were removed after refusing work opportunities offered to them by the corporation and 96 were struck off because they refused the training programmes provided to them free of charge.

The public can assist the ETC in its efforts to curb abuse by reporting any cases of illegal employment to 8007 6501.
