COMEBA resumes activities

Attard in new Board of Directors

John Attard, Badminton Association general secretary, was recently elected to the Board of Directors of COMEBA, the Confederation of Mediterranean Badminton, just formally reconstituted after being inactive for a number of years.

On the initiative of the Italian Badminton Federation, three separate meetings were held in Rome, Den Bosch and Casablanca over the past eight months during which a new and updated statute was finalised.

The approval of the new statute was held in Morocco by 13 member countries on July 29. Delegates elected Alberto Miglietta (Italy - president); Omar Bellali (Morocco) and Paul-Andre Tramier (France) - vice presidents; John Attard (Malta - secretary); Andriana Malekides (Cyprus - treasurer); and Kholoud Bitar (Syria) and Viktoria Hatzina-Tsakiri (Greece) - councillors.

Three separate internal working groups were set up to look after development, youth and technical issues.

The meeting was attended by Tom Bacher (Badminton Europe president), Larry Keys (African Badminton Federation president) and Mustapha Zekri (Mediterranean Games International Committee member). They all confirmed their full support for COMEBA.

In addition, Spain, Egypt, Turkey, Gibraltar, Croatia and Lebanon also confirmed their full adherence to COMEBA whose main objective is the promotion and development of the game in the Med. region.

Functioning from the offices of the Italian Badminton Federation in Rome, COMEBA is now fully operational and looking forward to face the challenges that await it in the attainment of its objectives. It will shortly be launching its own website - www.comebadminton.org
