The Front Maltin Inqumu (Maltese Arise Front), co-founded by Dom Mintoff, yesterday congratulated the former premier on the occasion of his 90 birthday, describing him as the "hero of the century".

The front was set up by Mr Mintoff with another former Labour Prime Minister Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici to campaign against EU membership.

Mr Mintoff was a true patriot who succeeded in making Malta a Republic and who later won total freedom for Malta, the front said.

An exhibition of newspapers, photographs, electoral posters and memorabilia highlighting Mr Mintoff's career from the collection of John Zammit and his late father Guzeppi was put up in Strait Street, Valletta to mark Mr Mintoff's birthday. It will run till Wednesday.

With reference to the article on Mr Mintoff The Silent Roar on Saturday's The Times, the caption of the photograph on page 5 should have read: The Speaker Guze Maria Camilleri escorting to the House of Reperesentatives Prime Minister George Borg Olivier and the leader of the Oppposition Dom Mintoff in the mid-1950s.
