The 14 dancers of the Ballet d'Europe enthralled their audience as they graced the stage of the evocative Old Opera House ruins in Valletta during their performance of Mozart's Requiem, part of the Malta Arts Festival, on Saturday.

Under the guidance of artistic director Jean-Charles Gil, and flaunting their prowess and intense expression, the dancers portrayed the theme of elevation, which saw them "evolve" and rise steadily from the floor to the tips of their toes in a natural progression throughout the performance.

The stage was washed in an effective white light as the Ballet d'Europe danced in white costumes amid the contrasting ruins and architectural backdrop.

The performances by the Ballet d'Europe were the result of an ongoing collaboration with the Dance Council that is set to continue in the form of cultural exchanges between dancers, ideas and choreographies.
