I wonder if the contactor who left the unfinished roadworks in Madliena (July 22) is the same one who, about three weeks ago, dug up a trench the whole length of Triq il-Mensija in The Gardens, starting from the corner with St George's Road and finishing at the other end near the Regional Road?
After laying some pipes the trench was refilled with the rubble and dust that was dug up, and that's it, "Job done" (or in this case, "Not done").
Triq il-Mensija being a thoroughfare into The Gardens, one can imagine the dust clouds created by all the traffic that goes through it.
And by the way, a month or so before this trench was dug up we had another group of workmen who dug up and patched up sections of this same street. Talk about waste of public money!
And all this mess was just across the street from the picturesque Spinola Bay, in the heart of one of our major tourist areas. What a negative impression we must be giving to the many tourists who follow the signs to The Gardens and the hundreds of foreign students who walk along this street all through the summer to get to their lessons at the Magister Academy situated in this street. We forget that today's foreign students may be tomorrow's tourists.
With a bit of luck Triq il-Mensija will be tidied up before the St Julians feast at the end of August.
