Australia defender Tony Vidmar has been cleared to resume playing after a heart problem forced him to miss the World Cup and consider early retirement.

Vidmar, 36, announced he had signed a deal with Central Coast in the Australian A-League after doctors had given him the all-clear.

The problem was only noticed after he had a routine X-ray on a rib injury he sustained in training with Dutch club NAC Breda.

Vidmar has been capped 75 times by Australia. He has also played for Middlesbrough in England and spent five years with Glasgow Rangers.
