FOI executive Cecilia Vella welcomed to the FOI premises Dirk Dobbelaere, secretary-general of the Association of Meat Manufacturers in Europe (CLITRAVI) last Monday.
Now that all FOI members operating in the pork, beef and poultry processing sectors have been officially EU-approved, CLITRAVI's support could strengthen the Maltese operators' voice at Brussels fora, which discuss draft legislation and developments in the Agrofood sector, particularly meat processing and slaughtering operations. This was the main objective of Mr Dobbelaere's meeting with the FOI meat sector group.
During this meeting, he outlined the main services CLITRAVI can offer Maltese companies, including reference prices of meat supplies from all over Europe, updates on discussions related to EU draft legislation and Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), as well as information on meat production and consumption patterns in EU member states.
During the meeting, FOI members were presented with information packages of CLITRAVI, including various publications and positions of importance to this sector. Any FOI member who would like to obtain this information package is to contact FOI executive Cecilia Vella on tel: 2122-2074 or 2123-4428.
During his stay in Malta Mr Dobbelaere also met the president and council of Pig Breeding Co-operative (KIM) and visited one of the plants of a pork-processing firm.
