St Albert of Trapani died 700 years ago. Born in 1240, he joined the Carmelites, and distinguished himself as a preacher, as well as for his missionary journeys and miracles.

He died aged 66 on August 7, 1306. His relics are enshrined at the famous Carmelite Sanctuary of Our Lady at Trapani. Pope Sixtus IV - OFM Conv. - inserted his name among the saints in 1476. In the Carmelite Basilica at Valletta, there is an altar dedicated to him.
