¤ Qala parish church celebrates the feast of St Joseph today with a Pontifical concelebrated Mass led by Bishop Mario Grech at 9 a.m. St George's Basilica archpriest Mgr Dr Joseph Farrugia will deliver the panegyric. The delegation from Lanciano, by invitation of the local council, will also be present.
The Pinto Band will play marches in the streets at 11.
Mgr Lawrence Xerri leads solemn vespers at 6.30 p.m.
The procession with the statue of the saint, led by Lanciano archbishop Carlo Ghidelli, starts at 7.30. The parish clergy, Qala and Senglea St Joseph Fraternities and the Ite ad Joseph band, will participate. Meanwhile the Mnarja Band will give a concert on the main square.
The procession ends at 10.15 with a fireworks display, and the sacramental blessing.
Outdoor festivities end with marches by the St Gregory Band at 10.30.
On Tuesday, Qala marks the 35th anniversary of the coronation of the titular painting of St Joseph with a concelebrated Mass, led by the bishop at 7 p.m.
¤ The Gozo Aquarium Fish Show will be held at Ninu Cremona School Hall, Victoria today from 9.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Entrance is free.
¤ A traditional dinner, to mark the feast of the Assumption, will be held by the Leone Band Club on the Cathedral Square, today at 8 p.m. Various local talents will be performing. For more information contact Grace Debono, Thomas Schembri or the Coney Island Bar.
¤ A book fair is being held at the Augustinian Friars Convent in Victoria from today till August 16.
¤ The 15th Victory Youth Games, organised by the Xaghra Youth Centre, will be held on the square today, at 8 p.m.
¤ The Friends of the Sick and the Elderly are holding a garage sale in Salvatore Psaila Street, Victoria, on Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Various household items will be on sale.
¤ Festivities to mark the feast of the Assumption of Our Lady in Victoria this week kick off tomorrow with a barbeque for children, with family games and entertainment, on the cathedral square at 8.15 p.m.
A rally will be held at the Leone Band Club on Tuesday at 9 p.m.
On Wednesday at 7.15 p.m., archpriest Mgr Joe Vella Gauci celebrates Mass at the cathedral to mark the 10th anniversary of his appointment and the 20th anniversary of the ordinations of Xaghra archpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo, Fr Victor Vella and Fr Lino Vella. Vicar General archdeacon Mgr Giovanni Bosco Gauci will deliver the homily. The Missa Brevis in Honorem Joannis Pauli II will be performed.
The Leone Band will give a concert, with the participation of the Chorus Ecclesiae Cathedralis, the Cathedral Youth Choir, tenor Charles Vincenti and baritone Alfred Camilleri, on Savina Square, on Thursday at 8.30 p.m. Mro Colin Attard directs. The new instruments will be blessed while the book Santa Marija 50 Sena fil-Katidral, by Mgr Joe Bezzina and published by the cathedral will be launched.
The Leone and St Margarita bands will play marches from the Leone Band Club to Savina Square on Saturday at 9.30 p.m. A ground fireworks display will follow.
