The Malta Football Referees Association (MFRA) have enlisted TeamSport as their technical partners for the next three years.
Eight days after unveiling the new diadora apparel for the football national teams, TeamSport yesterday paraded a new collection of kits and training gear to be worn by Maltese referees.
The diadora outfits - one in traditional black and the other featuring a yellow jersey and black shorts - are very similar to those used by Italian referees, also sponsored by diadora.
Details about the agreement between the MFRA and TeamSport were given during a news conference yesterday at the Centenary Hall, held after the end of the annual referees' seminar.
Present for the launching were Lorry Sammut and Joe Camilleri, president and secretary of the MFRA respectively, and Jonathan Darmanin from TeamSport.
In a short speech, Darmanin alluded to the crucial role of match officials in the game of football.
"It's fitting that this launching coincides with the conclusion of the annual referees' seminar as these events manifest the growing importance of the refereeing sector in the world of football. Malta is no exception," Darmanin said.
"Sponsorship agreements are no easy deals. They entail a significant financial commitment and a lot of hard work but as I said during the launch of the kit sponsorship for the national teams, we at TeamSport have been supporting local sports from day one of our activities in Malta.
"I'm convinced that the professional appearance these new outfits will give to referees, will also help to enrich the image of Maltese football," Darmanin concluded.
