The main door of Domus Romana in Rabat will open again today after it was closed four months ago when a storm extensively damaged its inner glass door.
Heritage Malta chief executive Antoinette Caruana said the day after the incident, tourists and the public started using the side entrance and everything had run smoothly.
She explained that on a stormy day in mid-April a strong gust of wind had dislodged the glass door, which crashed to the floor and shattered a glass information panel.
However, Ms Caruana said that nothing else, least of all artefacts, had been damaged and nobody had been injured.
Though the main door opens today, the glass door will not be in place until a little while longer.
"The process took so long because we had numerous discussions with the insurer and manufacturer. We are now expecting the arrival of the spare parts and we are in talks with the engineers to find the best way to re-install the door so that a similar incident won't recur," she said.
Domus Romana, wrongly referred to as the Roman Villa for years, had been closed for three years for a fully fledged rehabilitation that cost Lm180,000 and re-opened in February last year.
