The Lotteries and Gaming Authority has postponed a decision about whether to give a licence back to the Casino di Venezia, in Vittoriosa.

Authority chairman Joe Zammit Maempel said yesterday that another board meeting to continue discussing the case would be held on Thursday but a decision may not necessarily be taken then. The casino's license was cancelled on July 17 on grounds that its human resources were inadequate to run its gaming operations in terms of law.

This had followed the dismissal of 14 employees in the wake of a party on the final night of the World Cup during which excessive amounts of alcohol were consumed, inebriation was evident, about 350 glasses were broken and indecent acts in the presence of clients were reported.

The casino appealed the decision.

The board is requesting more information from the casino.
