A Syrian national was jailed for a month after he admitted to threatening to kill five police officers and three civilians in Gzira last month.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi heard Jihad Alloudami, 35, who resides in Gzira, plead guilty to trying to seriously injure a police sergeant and four constables when he brandished a knife at them and threatened to kill them on July 3.

He also admitted to threatening to kill three civilians, disobeying the police and to the illegal possession of a knife.

Police Inspector Malcolm Spiteri prosecuted.

Lawyers Michael Sciriha and Ian Farrugia were defence counsel.
