We refer to the letter entitled Undelivered Mail by Joseph Schembri of Pembroke.

Maltapost would first like to apologise to Mr Schembri for any inconvenience caused in retrieving his package. We take this opportunity to inform Mr Schembri once again, together with all our esteemed clientele, about the present procedure with regard to postal items which cannot be posted because of their size.

When a postal item cannot be inserted in a letterbox, the postman tries to hand-deliver to the householder. When no reply is forthcoming, the postman leaves a green form advising the addressee to contact Maltapost by calling 2596 1600 or to send an e-mailing to packets@maltapost.com, or fill in a form via the website www.maltapost.com, to arrange for one of the following options:

1. Personal collection of the item from any postal retail outlet at no charge;

2. Delivery as addressed, or to any other preferred address, via the Maltapost Courier Service, at a convenient time between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. This option will entail a charge of Lm1.50, payable on delivery.

This advice is printed on the green note which was left in Mr Schembri's letter box. Contrary to what Mr Schembri states, the option for collection of the undelivered item from any retail outlet, at no charge, is still available.

Alternatively, if Mr Schembri is a regular recipient of bulky postal items, he may wish to consider enlarging his letterbox.

He may also opt for any or all of his mail to be re-directed to another address (at a yearly charge of Lm2) or to any of the 32 Maltapost retail outlets in Malta and Gozo (at a yearly charge of Lm10). This redirection service has been available for a number of years.
