Heritage Malta has rewarded 14 primary and secondary school students for their submissions in a competition marking the 25th anniversary of Unesco's listings of the country's megalithic temples as World Heritage Sites.

The competition, which focused on both drawings/paintings and short essays, attracted some 150 submissions from three schools: De La Salle College, the Convent of the Sacred Heart Foundation and Dun Salv Portelli Primary School in Gozo.

The painters of three drawings were awarded a year's family membership to all of Heritage Malta's sites and museums excluding the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum together with a number of Heritage Malta publications. A student who submitted a short essay was awarded the same prize.

First prize was awarded to Shawn Darmanin who attends De La Salle College. Ten students were awarded a certificate of merit. The prize-giving ceremony was held at Vilhena Palace, in Mdina, last Friday.

All submissions will remain on display at Heritage Malta's head office in Valletta until August 13. Admission is free of charge.
