Three brothers were yesterday charged with trying to kill their cousin when they beat him up at the Msida Bocci Club accusing him of picking on their other brother.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna heard Charles Aquilina, 37, of Fgura, Robert Aquilina, 29, of Attard, and Darren Aquilina, 21, of Pietà - all taxi drivers - plead not guilty to the charges brought against them. They were charged with assaulting and trying to kill their cousin Kevin Pace and permanently injuring him on Monday at about 10.40 p.m. Charles and Darren Aquilina were also charged with relapsing.

During bail submissions the Aquilinas' lawyer Emmanuel Mallia told the court the argument arose because Mr Pace had been picking on his clients' brother.

Police Inspector Stephen Gatt said Mr Pace had a different story to tell.

The Aquilinas were remanded in custody.
