Galea just outside his best time in UK race

Birkirkara St Joseph's five times national champion Dermot Galea took part in the Milton Keynes Triathlon last Sunday.

The event is part of the UK Grand Prix circuit organized by the British Triathlon Association.

With an entry field of over 900, there were five different waves according to age-groups.

Galea set off at 7.20 a.m. He covered the 1,500m swim in 19:45.

The cycle included a rather hilly start, making it hard for Galea to drop under the hour. He did the second segment in 1:02.45.

But, a quick transition saw Galea moving fast in the first part of the 10km run going on to record a 38:02 for an overall 2:00.33. It was his second best time ever on the Olympic distance.

Galea described the Milton Keynes Triathlon as demanding but was disappointed not to go under the two-hour barrier by just a few seconds.

His final position was ninth in his category and 29th overall.

Galea is now planning to compete in another triathlon on British shores in three weeks' time.
