Rangers kick off campaign with 2-1 win at Motherwell

Rangers opened their Scottish Premier League campaign under new manager Paul Le Guen with a 2-1 win at Motherwell yesterday.

"We had many, many chances and we were not efficient enough, but it doesn't matter," Le Guen told BBC Radio Scotland.

"The most important thing is three points from the match away.

"I am very happy with the way we played and there was some good football during the game even though Motherwell equalised in the second half.

"But we never gave up and we were rewarded with the victory today," the Frenchman added.

Rangers missed a clutch of chances before Libor Sionko put them ahead on eight minutes. Motherwell keeper Graeme Smith blocked his first shot only for the rebound to cannon off Sionko into the net.

Motherwell captain Phil O'Donnell equalised after 53 minutes, volleying a shot into the roof of the net after Rangers goalkeeper Lionel Letizi parried his first effort from six metres.

But Rangers's Croatian striker Dado Prso headed home the winner at the near post following a cross by Charlie Adam on 65 minutes then hit the post shortly afterwards with a terrific shot.

Champions Celtic beat Kilmarnock 4-1 on Saturday to top the standings on goal difference.
