Eleven members were yesterday elected to the MFA Executive Committee for 2006-2007.
Long-serving Premier League representatives Joseph Gauci, the vice-president of Birkirkara, and Paul Spiteri, his counterpart at Valletta, were uncontested.
Charles Caruana (St Patrick), Joseph Schembri (Hamrun) and John Vella (Tarxien) were the three candidates for the two vacancies for representatives of Division One clubs. The two slots went to Caruana and Vella who collected 54 and 62 votes respectively. Schembri received 44 votes.
Salvu Vella (Mellieha) and Joseph Farrugia (Kirkop) were the only nominees to fill the posts reserved for second and third division clubs. Joe Micallef, of Youth FA, also retained his seat.
Charles Scerri and Charles Calleja received the assembly's mandate to take up the two posts for council members representing member clubs in general.
The two posts allocated for those representing the other member associations will be held by Joseph Cassar Naudi (MHRSA) and Raymond Micallef (Gozo FA).
Delegates were told yesterday that the MFA had been directed by FIFA to effect a series of minor amendments to its statute.
The most important of these concerns club membership whereby the MFA regulations now make it clear that only clubs situated within the Republic of Malta are eligible to enrol with the MFA.
