Kare4Kenya is helping 80 children and their families in Kawangware, on the outskirts of Nairobi. The Kare4Kenya organisation is ensuring that the children of the Kenyan village get an education and food, among other basic necessities, while also taking care of the medical needs of the children's families.
Next month, two of the Kare4Kenya volunteers are travelling to Kenya to monitor the project and to start a new NGDO in Nairobi. This will consist of a group of Kenyan youths and some of the parents of the children that they already help. This new organisation will work closely with the children and their families. One of the concerns of the Kare4Kenya organisation is to ensure that the Kenyan people progress independently and not just to be led, while quenching many young people's thirst to learn, acquire, and use new skills. This eventually will help Kenyan youngsters build their own future.
However, the bad news is that Kare4Kenya are operating on a shoestring. The cost of a flight to Nairobi is Lm436 including taxes. This voluntary organisation does not use any of the money collected for the children for administrative costs and usually pays for all the expenses themselves.
Thus, financial problems increase considering that they have already been to Kenya several times in the past four years. Kare4Kenya are therefore asking for any contributions towards paying for the flights and although one is already paid for they still need another Lm400 by Thursday.
Kare4Kenya continues to work towards helping some people in Kenya to improve their situation and are asking the Maltese to help them help these people to improve their standard of living.
Any donation would be greatly appreciated and the organisation will inform the public of the situation in Kenya when they get back from the voluntary mission there.
