I cannot agree more with Mrs Helga Ellul (The Sunday Times, July 23). If it is not construction works, it's petards all day long, noisy neighbours or, worse still, loud music from entertainment venues until the early hours of the morning.

Since the night of June 29 I have called the Birkirkara police station six times on four consecutive weekends to complain about excessively loud music from venues in Gharghur Road, tal-Balal, one of which has a permit to play music till 4 a.m.

Although I'm always promised that the police will see what can be done, nothing ever is.

The people who believe that we enjoy a high quality of life in Malta are the same perpetrators of all these inconveniences. Malta, especially in summer, is a living hell for law-abiding citizens who cherish the weekend for a well-deserved rest after a week of hard work.
