Maltese waterpolo champions Sirens ASC announced that they have extended their sponsorship with software company 2X by another year.
In a statement, the club said the sponsorship deal was instrumental in helping the team from St Paul's Bay maintaining their position at the top of Maltese waterpolo.
2X is a new, dynamic Maltese-owned software company with partners throughout the world. It is also an official partner of global software giant Microsoft.
Thanks to the sponsorship, Sirens were able to engage top Hungarian player Tamas Marcz, who was a member of the all-conquering Hungarian team that won the Olympic gold medal in Sydney 2000 and two European Championships in 1997 and 1999.
Marcz, 32, was also instrumental in helping unfancied Savona to the Italian Serie A title in 2005. He was voted best foreign player in the Italian league that year.
Thanks to the sponsorship, Sirens will continue with the development of their youth sector. For the past two years, a full-time coach, Dejan Simeonov, was employed to train the Sirens youth teams.
Simeonov is fully qualified. Besides being totally responsible for the three youth teams at Sirens, he acts as assistant coach to John Farrugia and is in charge of the physical preparation of the senior squad.
