Five containers loaded with counterfeit merchandise were intercepted by Customs officers, a spokesman said yesterday.

Discrepancies in documentation led the officers to look further into the matter and the containers were x-rayed on arrival at the Freeport from the Far East.

The contents of two 40-foot containers and three 20-foot containers were inspected and found to contain over 200,000 counterfeit items of brands such as Hugo Boss, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Levis, Diesel, Puma, Nike, Adidas, FIFA, Manchester United, Timberland, Louis Vuitton and Burberry.

The goods ranged from belts to watches, handbags, wallets, seat covers, caps and shoes.

The latest find brought the total number of containers seized to 20.
