The police have arrested a Somali man who was found in possession of 12 kilos of a drug known as Khat on Friday-Saturday night.

The drug was found by Customs officers hidden in the luggage of the 29-year-old man who had just flown in from Amsterdam.

Magistrate Giovanni Grixti is heading the inquiry.

The police drugs unit also arrested four people found in possession of drugs in two raids yesterday.

The first was conducted at Zabbar near the bus terminus in Sanctuary Street where a 23-year-old from Senglea was found in possession of a packet of heroin, while another 27 packets were found on another man aged 27 from Xaghjra.

The other two arrests followed a raid at an Msida residence where a 50-year-old Canadian resident in Malta was found in possession of two cannabis plants and other drug related items.

A Libyan aged 39, resident of Naxxar, was arrested after he was spotted swallowing a packet of heroin.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera is holding inquiries.
