I have just read the letter by Paul Attard on behalf of 20 others on the so-called toy boats (The Sunday Times, July 16). I must thank Mr Attard because I found his letter most illuminating. I never knew that there was a club and that these good people paid a fee to have these 'boats' and neither did I know that they were allowed to use them up to the middle of June.

Fair is fair and I agree that they should have an allotted time and place where to practice this interesting hobby. When I wrote to agree with Mr Ebejer I was not a part of a chain letter. I was stating the facts as I found them for myself at Mistra Bay last year, bang in the middle of summer - on different dates in August.

Now that Mr Attard has better informed me I will be looking out for these enthusiasts when I am next in the country. All I ask is for these good people to spare a thought for the bathers, especially the young, the old and the infirm and maybe use their pastime later in the evening, rather than in the middle of the afternoon.

I am no spoil sport. In fact I admire young men who spend their spare time and energy 'playing' innocently with such 'toys' rather than brawling somewhere and taking drugs. I would like to see this pastime going into competitive mode. It is no pleasure to see men coming down in cars and looking around to see whether there are would-be troublemakers on the beach.

Mr Attard, I most sincerely hope that you and your friends can enjoy your pastime without more ado from anybody else and that we can all look forward to some restful and safe days at Mistra Bay.
