Canon P. Pullicino Girls' Secondary School, Rabat, has been for the past year a partner school in a Comenius 1 project entitled "E-bridge", with participating partner schools from Lithuania, Slovakia, Austria, France and Italy.
The project aims to bridge the gap across three generations - students, parents and grandparents, and to bridge the gap across Europe. The project also seeks to develop co-operation between the partner schools, fortify students' motivation and help them develop their ability to learn foreign languages.
As part of this Comenius initiative a number of projects were carried out during this scholastic year including a study of the students' family roots; Christmas celebrations for the three generations; identification through discussions of common values between the three generations and between project partners; and a play about Mother's love on Mother's Day.
Two teachers at this school, Moira Xuereb (Comenius project co-ordinator) and Stephania Scicluna, with three students, recently met representatives and students from the other participating schools at Hauptschule Waizenkirchen in Austria.
There, teachers and students shared their assignments and experiences, and learnt more about each other's cultures and traditions. The meeting also offered a great opportunity for exchanging views on the schools' educational techniques.
The hosting school prepared a jam-packed programme of activities for the group, including a tour to the beautiful city of Salzburg and the picturesque Danube Valley.
This Comenius project is being funded by the EUPU at the Socrates Office in Malta.
