Three different simulated oil spill exercises have been scheduled for this summer by the Oil Pollution Response Module within the Ministry for Tourism.

The aim of the exercises is to train personnel to tackle hydrocarbon and chemical pollutants that could severely damage beaches and shores.

Together with workers from the module, personnel from the Beach Cleaning section, the Malta Maritime Authority and the Civil Protection Department took part in one of the exercises at Mellieha Bay on Thursday.

The exercise was carried out under the supervision of Tony Mallia, head of the Oil Pollution Response Module.
