Maltese contingent travels to Hungary today

The Maltese contingent for this year's FISEC Games in Kecskemet, Hungary, leaves the islands today. The Games start tomorrow with the first competitions and the opening ceremony and will come to a close next Tuesday.

The delegation, made up of 90 people, is led by the chairman of Malta FISEC Council Brother Martin Borg. The Maltese will be taking part in seven sporting disciplines, namely, futsal, basketball, tennis, table-tennis, swimming, athletics and handball.

This is not the first time that the Hungarian FISEC Council will be organising the Games. Kecskemet played hosts in 1995 and in 2001 the games were held in Nyiregyhaza.

This year is the 58th edition of these Games and over 1,200 athletes will be taking part in various competitions. Competitors hail from 14 different countries, namely Great Britain, France, Austria, USA, Italy, Belgium Flanders, Malta, Hungary, Holland, Portugal, Spain, Croatia, Poland and Romania.

The first participation of athletes from Poland and Romania confirms the increase in popularity of the FISEC Games.
