Obituary

CHETCUTI. On July 18, at St Luke's Hospital, GUZÈ, aged 91, widower of Lina née Mifsud, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of the Holy Catholic Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Censina, his daughter Josephine and her husband Joe A. Vella, his sons Charles and his wife Maryanne, Adrian and his wife Josephine, Geoffrey and his wife Emma, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 9 a.m. for Stella Maris parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.30 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Caritas will be appreciated. Lord grant him eternal rest.

CUSCHIERI. On July 18, at her residence in Floriana, ROSIE, aged 76, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her brothers Paul, Gustavo (Godfrey) and her sister Lina, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital tomorrow at 8.30 a.m. for St Publius parish church, Floriana, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siggiewi, will be appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors. Lord grant her eternal rest.

KOZLOV - SERGEY. The Embassy of the Russian Federation in Malta with deep regret announces the death of Mr Sergey Kozlov, Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission of the Russian Embassy, who passed away on July 17 at the age of 47. Lord grant him eternal rest.

RANDON. On July 13, VICTOR LOUIS, of New York, US, passed peacefully away, comforted by the rites of the Holy Catholic Church.  He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Nora née Delia, his sons and daughter, Ron, David and Marisa, their families, his 10 grandchildren, his brothers Tony and Fr John and his sister Mary Pace Balzan, together with the rest of the Randon family living in Malta, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Mass was held on Saturday, July 15 at Our Lady of Mercy church, followed by interment at Rosa of Lima Cemetery of Freehold, New Jersey, where he will rest in peace next to his beloved son Anthony who passed away on October 20, 2003. Following the services, a memorial gathering, hosted by his son David and his wife Regina, was held to celebrate Victor's life and his passing over to join his son. Lord grant him eternal peace.

Elderly Person Of The Year

The winner of the 13th Elderly Person Of The Year Award will be announced at a ceremony to be held at St Vincent de Paul, Luqa on October 6.

Helen D'Amato, Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly and Community Care, has urged voluntary groups, parishes and local councils to nominate persons that share their time voluntarily with persons in need.

The selection board is headed by Cecilia Xuereb and includes Angelo Fenech, Fredrick Fenech, Lilian Miceli Farrugia, Josephine Saliba and Fr. Victor Zammit McKeon. The secretary is Charles Herrera.

Further information and application forms can be obtained from the board secretary at the Office of the Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly and Community Care, 15, Merchants Street, Valletta or from the Department of the Elderly and Community Care, St Francis Square, Victoria, by September 7.

Junior Song for Europe

The MaltaSong Board said the finals of the Junior Song for Europe 2006 will be held at Sir Temi Zammit Hall, Tal-Qroqq, Msida on September 16.

The winning song will participate in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Romania on December 2.

Regulations for the participation in the Junior Song For Europe 2006 can be obtained from the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, 230 Republic Street, Valletta or by visiting www.maltasong.com.

Entries have to be submitted on August 16 and 17 between 9 a.m. and noon.

Translation Course

Those in possession of a university degree or an equivalent qualification, an excellent command and understanding of Maltese and two EU languages are eligible to apply for a postgraduate diploma course in interpreting or translation.

Students interested in applying for courses commencing in October are to submit their application at the M.A. Vassalli Lecture Centre, University of Malta, Msida by Friday until 12.30 p.m. Students waiting for their final university results should also apply. Applications are to be submitted against a fee of Lm10 payable prior to submission of application at any BOV or HSBC branch.

Boat Bridge Record Attempt

A fund-raising event to set up a boat bridge between Cirkewwa and Mgarr harbour and to help Id-Dar Tal-Providenza and Arka Foundation will be held on August 5.

An attempt to break the Guinness world record challenge to form the longest boat bridge between the islands will also be made.

New website

The Institute of Directors (IoD Malta) Malta branch has launched a new website at www.iod.com/malta. The information available on the site is the result of close collaboration among partners at IoD in the United Kingdom and IoD European branch network levels coordinated by IoD Malta.

The website has been completely redesigned by IoD UK's web development team and by local directors at IoD Malta.

Tuna Festival

The Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment will, for the second consecutive year, be holding a tuna festival at Is-Sajjieda Bay, Marsaxlokk on Saturday at 7 p.m.

The festival will include tuna and swordfish recipes, an exhibition of photos and gadgets utilised in fishing, local olive oil and clay designs of fish and equipment used to catch fish. Tuna and swordfish will also be on sale at special prices.

Competition Winner

Helen Agius of Zebbug was presented with Lm100 worth of Yves Saint Laurent products after participating in the May competition of Singular, the beauty store at the Valletta Waterfront.

Mrs Agius guessed the right answer to the competition quiz which attracted entries from various localities and age groups.

Slip road closed

The slip road near St Philip's Hospital, off Psaila Street, Sta Venera, heading towards the university (the stretch of road in front of the Christmas Shop) will be closed for traffic for a period of two weeks due to works carried out by Enemalta. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution.
