Long-time Valletta FC transfer target David Camilleri finally joined the Citizens after accepting a four-year contract offer yesterday.

Camilleri, 32 next month, left his first club Hamrun Spartans in 1999 to join Sliema Wanderers with whom he spent four years. He was then transferred to Marsaxlokk before moving to Hibernians and back south to Marsaxlokk.

Each time Camilleri was available on the transfer market, the left-footed midfielder was always linked with Valletta, who, despite showing keen interest, never managed to conclude the deal.

But yesterday, Camilleri attended his first training session for the Lilywhites at the St Aloysius College ground under the charge of coach Paul Zammit.

Argentine Rutili arrives

Camilleri was joined by another newcomer, Guido Javier Rutili, a 26-year-old Argentine, former team-mate of City striker Sebastian Monesterolo at Sportivo Belgrano.

The signings of midfielders Camilleri and Rutili will probably bring to a close Valletta's transfer market this summer. They have already acquired exciting youngster Dyson Falzon from Mosta and experienced goalkeeper Saviour Darmanin, a free agent.

Earlier this month, Valletta loaned out Sharlon Pace to Sliema for one year and defender Kevin Cassar is now back at Hibernians.

Veteran Sean Sullivan is ex-pected to be released after several years guarding the City goal.
