A former police constable has been fined Lm200 for the possession of cocaine but was cleared of trafficking in the drug two years ago.

Magistrate Lawrence Quintano fined the 27-year-old man after ruling that the police had failed to prove he had been involved in drug trafficking.

The man's name is not being published by court order as he is helping the police in further investigations.

Police Inspector Norbert Ciappara prosecuted.

Lawyers José Herrera and Roberto Montalto appeared for the accused.
