One Sunday recently I had the pleasure of going to Gozo with my family. We decided to use public transport on our way back from Cirkewwa.
As our cars were parked in St Julians, we decided to catch the direct bus from Cirkewwa to St Julians. But our planned bus trip had to be changed to an expensive alternative. This was because the direct bus from Cirkewwa to St Julians departed as soon as the ferry entered the Cirkewwa harbour.
To add insult to injury, the bus conductor and other drivers that were waiting their turn informed us that pets - that is, a miniature toy poodle that we had with us - were not allowed on the bus, even if we paid a normal person's fare. If I am not mistaken, pets are allowed on aeroplanes and on passenger vessels, so why not on the buses as well?
Going back to the bus service, I would like someone at the Transport Authority to help me and my family, as well as other people who where stranded in Cirkewwa the same as we were, to understand why the direct bus, which is an hourly service, departs at the same time the ferry enters the harbour - with only two people aboard. And I would also like to know how come pets are not allowed on buses.
As the situation is right now, I definitely was not encouraged to use or depend on public transport. I wouldn't like to be stranded every time I try to make use of the service. Therefore, I have decided that, until I get a decent reply to my questions, my car will be my only means of transport.
