The article on the huge explosion that rocked Vittoriosa 200 years ago and killed 180 people (The Sunday Times, July 2) had some incorrect information.
Denis A. Darmanin incorrectly stated that men of the 39th Foot (East Middlesex) were involved. Now if they were of the East Middlesex Regiment, then they would be of the 77th Foot. If they were of the 39th Foot then they would be from the Dorsetshire Regiment.
This information can be found in Book 119, Osprey Men at arms series.
I served in the 4th Queens, which was the old Middlesex Regiment (1960s), made up of the old 57th, West Middlesex, and the 77th East Middlesex.
