Olympic discus champion Natalya Sadova is facing a two-year doping ban after failing a drugs test. "She declined to have her B sample tested, thus accepting a penalty," a source told Reuters. Sadova, 34, tested positive for an unspecified anabolic steroid at an invitational meeting in the Dutch town of Hengelo on May 28.

Gymnastics - World Cup
Entry will be free to the gymnastics World Cup in Shanghai this weekend to encourage spectator interest before the 2008 Olympics. Olympic champion Teng Haibing is one of 58 gymnasts and 10 Chinese taking part. "I wouldn't like to say how many golds China can win this year but hopefully a few. I'd love to get one of them," Teng told reporters. Russia will field 13 gymnasts including 15-year-old Kristina Pravdina.
Horse racing - Little hope for Barbaro
The condition of Kentucky Derby champion Barbaro has worsened over the last few days and the colt's chances of survival are poor, doctors said yesterday. Barbaro has developed a severe case of laminitis in his left hind foot, said Dean Richardson, chief of surgery at the George D. Widener Hospital for Large Animals. When asked Barbaro's chances of survival, he said: "I don't want to put a percentage on it but I would say poor. I'd be lying if I said anything other than poor."
